Yesterday we went to te oro. When we got there we were 5 minutes early so we had to sit and wait for the te oro people to come. Once they arrived they asked us to take off our shoes. After that we went into their workspace. Then we all sat on the mat while they told us about themselves and what were going to do for the day.
There were 3 work spaces, one where you make kites, one where you paint rocks and one where you weave. I was in weaving . At first they told us about all the rules when cutting harakeke, then they gave us all 4 thick pieces of harakeke. Then they told us all the things we do with the harakeke and how to weave it. At the end of weaving the harakeke they told us since this is our first time weaving something you must give it to someone as a gift. And that we will have to weave another one.
After we weaved the other one they told us it was time to go. I enjoyed weaving. And matariki means to me is when you get up around 5-4 am to watch the stars while having a campfire.
